Folic Acid or Folate?

The terms "Folic Acid" and "Folate" are often misused to describe vitamin B9.

Folic Acid is actually a synthetic form of vitamin B9, which is not found in nature, nor is it naturally present in the human body. For folic acid to be metabolized by our body, much work is required, mainly on the FOLR2 and DHFR enzymes (which act in the liver).

"In theory, integration with folic acid - the most common form of Folate in supplements - it should provide the body with the Folate that it needs to convert dangerous homocysteine into safe methionine. Unfortunately, this work to reduce homocysteine does not happen in all subjects ". (scientific reference here : lifeextension)
This is the reason why in Terranova we use Folate instead of Folic Acid.

In summary:
- Folate is the BIOLOGICALLY ACTIVE form (like Calcium L-methylfolate)
- At Terranova we avoid the risks associated with standard folic acid such as the MTHFR Mutation "
